Read! Read! Read!
Are you still reading at home with your child? Are they reading independently? Please keep up
the habit of having your child read each day. Need books? Let me know and I will make sure
your child has a book to read.
In class we are starting to investigate informational writing and reading. Our students are looking over text, checking out
the layout of informational writing, discovering the importance of text features, and discussing the author's purpose.
NWEA
Testing starts this week and runs through the rest of the month. For 2nd graders this is a pretty quick assessment
for both math and reading. Tests run about 30-45 minutes each. Please encourage your student to read each question,
think about each question, and not to worry or get stressed out.
Science
We will begin our next unit, Work of Water. Per Mystery Doug, “This unit helps students develop the idea that
water is a powerful force that reshapes the earth’s surface. Students see that water isn’t just something we drink. It carries sand to create beaches, carves out canyons and valleys and, as ice, scrapes entire areas flat.” This is my first year teaching this unit as it is a new adoption by our district. I’m so excited! I’ve heard great things from both students and teachers. Be sure to ask your child about Science.
