Reading
We are starting a unit that will be a main focus throughout the year. Students will begin practicing
summarizing and analyzing story elements. How can you support your student at home? Ask them
to tell you the big ideas or the most important ideas in the text (or video, or movie…). Ask your child
who, what, when, where, why, and how questions. Consider having them generate questions for you
to answer after they read aloud to you.

Writing
Students are continuing work with personal narratives.
Math
We will finish up Unit 1 this week. Please have your child return the math packet if they decided to
complete the activities. You can help your child get ready for our next unit by discovering and
practicing addition facts that equal 10, 100, and 1,000. We will also begin repeated addition. This is
a basis for multiplication. Counting by 2’s, 3’s, 4’s, and 5’s… all the way to 100 would be great practice.

Social Studies
We will work on identifying the size of a problem and the size of our reactions to problems.
